What is Essential Oil Therapy for Animals?

Essential Oil Therapy for Animals is the use of essential oils and aromatic waters to promote optimal health and aid recovery from disease.  The Therapy combines traditional knowledge with modern scientific thinking, offering a natural choice of relief for many common physical and behavioural problems in animals, such as allergies, arthritis, digestive disorders, laminitis, muscular strains, tendon and ligament sprains, respiratory infections, sarcoids, stress-related disorders, viruses and wounds.

How do Essential Oils work with animals?

First of all the essential oils are never massaged into the coat as this causes adverse reactions. Essential Oil Therapy is offered to each animal via inhaltion or for them to lick from your hand. When an essential oil is inhaled, the uptake and distribution of the chemical constituents are transmitted via chemical messengers directly into the brain and brain stem via complex neural and circulatory pathways.  Essential Oil molecules are absorbed into the blood stream through the mucous membranes. When essential oils are ingested they are absorbed through the gut wall into the blood stream.  Therefore, essential oils have a broad effect on the body, directly influencing the limbic system (the emotional command centre), balancing the autonomic nervous system and exerting specific physiological effects throughout the body.
