Facilities and Therapies
We offer state-of-the-art facilities with a qualified, skilled and caring team providing excellent service to the owner/trainer and the highest level of care to the individual needs of each horse in stress-free surroundings. Your horse doesn't have to have an injury to come and see us, they may just need a check-up, massage or a break from their regular routine with a change of scenary in stress-free surroundings. Our facilities include: STABLING
Large spacious stables available for 20 horses in either an American style barn or courtyard setting. All stables have rubber matting and double aspect outlook helping to alleviate boredom during box-rest. Each horse has an individual care plan drawn up on arrival depending on their needs. ADJACENT CORRALS WITH RESTRICTED TURNOUT
The stabling in the American style barn have post and rail corrals designed for restricted turnout after box-rest to allow the horse to roam freely but not able to gather any speed and re-injure themselves. RUBBER LINED STABLES We have two rubber lined stables which can be used for horses recovering post surgery, recovering from fractures or suffering with colic. HORSEWALKERS
Two x 5 berth horsewalkers with rubber matting floors. LOADING RAMP
Especially useful for horses arriving with injuries. OUTDOOR SCHOOL
55 metre x 25 metre school with equisand and rubber surface suitable for long-reining, lunging, schooling, build-up work post injury and schooling over jumps. Housed sound system with speakers adjacent to school. COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES Essential Oil Therapy
Essential Oil Therapy is suitable for all types of injuries especially tendon/ligaments problems, behavioural problems, poor performance and lethagy, post-operative convalescence, fractures, digestive disorders and respiratory, allergic conditions and all types of skin problems. Micro-Current Electrical Therapy
Micro-Current Therapy is suitable for all types of injuries, especially tendon and ligament problems, wounds and fractures and can also be used as a preventative for tendon and ligament injuries. The body uses very small amounts of current to increase cell wall permeability, stimulate critical protein production and promote ATP (natural biochemical energy) availability. This helps to promote cellular healing and facilitates many metabolic processes. When soft tissue (skin, tendons, ligaments, bone) is damaged, many of these functions cease to work, or to work properly. By introducing these minute, cell specific currents of electricity from an external source, thus mimicking the bodies endogenous "electrical circuitry", the healing process is both kick-started and accelerated; the first step towards regenerative repair. The currents within the treatment programmes are those which have been found to perform particular functions within the body at cellular level. VETERINARY ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is a treatment that involves inserting fine, sterile, stainless steel needles into specific points of the body to prevent and treat disease. The treatment evolved over 3000 years ago in China and it is now being used in veterinary and medical practices throughout the world. In veterinary medicine, acupuncture is increasingly being recognised as a useful treatment for a wide range of conditions. Acupuncture can be used as part of a treatment protocol for almost any medical condition. For horses, acupuncture is commonly used for the relief of musculoskeletal pain and to influence the function of internal organs. VETERINARY HERBAL MEDICINE
Photo of Comfrey Veterinary Herbal Medicine a type of medicine that uses roots, stems, leaves, flowers, or seeds of plants to improve health, prevent disease and treat illness. Herbs can treat many physical and behavioural conditions and our vet, Ray O'Mahony MRCVS, will prescribe an individual formula which will be offered to the horse alongside his feed. EQUISSAGE
Equissage uses Cycloid Vibration Therapy, a uniquely non aggressive technique that allows energy to penetrate gently but deeply into the body. Its proven benefits include increased circulation, improved venous and lymphatic drainage, improved respiration, released tension and improved joint mobility. SPORTS MASSAGE
The application of hands-on massage techniques to increase circulation by transporting oxygen to the surrounding tissues whilst eliminating toxins and wastes from the muscles. Muscle spasms are a common affliction during work and post-injury in horses, so once the injury has mended, it is necessary to relax the contracted area and restore a range of motion to it by "stretching" the muscles and helping the tissues to realign themselves which will help the body heal itself. PHYSIOTHERAPY
Physiotheraphy specialises in the treatment of musculoskeletal problems using manual techniques. These techniques include physiotherapy, McTimoney techniques and the Ellis Technique. The therapeutic effects, whether directed at the muscular or skeletal systems are very similar. There is a reduction of the muscular spasm in the segments treated. Due to the relaxation of the muscle there is localised increase in blood flow and often a systemic release of endorphins. REMEDIAL FARRIER
Allowing feet to be unbalanced creates uneven stresses on the foot. If a farrier shoes a horse to accommodate rather than to correct any problems, they can cause an uneven stance and action which greatly affects the horse's comfort and ability to work. This causes eventual lameness and possible breakdown via a tendon or ligament injury. Once the foot is rebalanced, in conjunction with the conformation of that individual horse's leg, the difference can be amazing. The foot will grow normally and in the correct places and uneven pressures alleviated by faulty action. SECURITY Each individual stable is alarmed to ensure 24 hour security with redcare system to alert police. The whole premises are also fully alarmed. PADDOCKS
Post and rail paddocks available for daily turnout. No chemical fertiliser has been used for over 30 years. |
