Post Operative Care and Convalescence

We have a fully trained, caring staff to nurse your horse post operative and during convalescence. We are recommended by all our local Veterinary practices and Trainers - see testimonials.

On arrival at the Centre, we take a detailed consultation and recommend an individual treatment protocol and length of stay.  Bobby McEwen MRCVS, one of our Veterinary Surgeons, is happy to liaise with your own Vet to discuss the various treatment options. Ray O'Mahony MRCVS specialises in herbal medicine and is happy to discuss the individual remedies with you or your vet.

You can bring your horse to us at any stage of their recovery, each horse has individual attention with various therapies, grooming and handling taking place throughout the day.

Step 1:  Total box-rest:  Spacious stable with rubber matting, double aspect views across the countryside and internal yard.

Step 2:  Corral and box-rest:  As above plus the added benefit of an adjacent post and rail corral.

Step 3:  Build-up programme: As above plus regular walking-in hand, then horsewalker exercise and then onto groundwork and schooling or re-schooling.

Corrals:  The post and rail corrals are a superb interim stage in the horse's recovery programme. The corrals offer the next best option to paddock rest whilst safely recovering from an injury to allow the horse to enjoy controlled turnout.  The corrals are 20ft x 20ft so they cannot gather up speed and re-injure themselves.  They can also interact with the horse next door through the safety rails and enjoy the weather, as they would do if turned out (rugs can be provided!).
